Day 5 – Starting a particle model

Today, we started in on the particle model of matter. Students returned to the exploding can and whiteboarded particle level explanations using their current knowledge. It was interesting to see the varied responses. Some saw heat as a substance, others depicted particle motion and some portrayed the can as completely empty in the end. It’s challenging I not just jump in and correct students right away. But so far the whiteboards and solid group discussions are looking like a more powerful way.
